Oculus Film is a film-focussed creative agency. Oculus is Latin for eye. Our eyes are essential for viewing and making visual content



Of course, you can't see or make a film, or any other visual content without your eyes, but our name has other associations, too.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

The dome of the pantheon, Rome's best preserved ancient building, is crowned by an oculus. It lets light in - becoming the building's (only) source of illumination. But it also interfaces with the outside world in other ways: when it rains outside the pantheon's floor will be wet, and on Pentecost you can observe rose petals whirling down. Without the oculus the experience wouldn't be the same!

Our name is also a hint to our background in architecture. Designing buildings and designing strategies, campaigns, and films have a lot in common. The two have their formal and functional requirements and there is a component of art to both of them.

OUR WAY OF WORKING

We are always looking for the goal behind the question. More often than not, a film fits in a larger picture. Within a communication strategy for example. And it should fit in, otherwise you may as well not throw time, effort, and money to it. Finding this out is often a collaboration. 'Your wish is our command' is not a phrase that generally fits our way of working.

Our ambition is to get the most out of every job. We don't often go the easy way.

OUR STYLE

While we will adapt to our style to match to the content we are making, we are not completely style agnostic. We love to be a touch dramatic when it counts. We like to show - not tell. Our work is based on cinematic conventions that work, though there's always room for experimentation.

We aim to deliver expressive and timeless results. You will not see overly frivolous clips from us that are based on the latest and hippest trends.

Our studio reflects our love for aesthetics. The office is light, with a big window overlooking the Delfshavense Schie, with few distracting colours to make content shine, and located in a beautiful example of industrial heritage in a lively area of Rotterdam.
